Complete recovery after nine-day novena to Mother Seton; physicians had given weeks to live

Synopsis

Sister Gertrude Korzendorfer was a Daughter of Charity, a congregation affiliated with the community Elizabeth Ann Seton had founded. In January 1935 she was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer and given weeks to live by her physicians. Her community organized a novena through the intercession of Mother Seton, petitioning for her recovery over nine days. Sister Gertrude recovered completely from the cancer. She lived until 1942.

The case was accepted by the Sacred Congregation of Rites as one of the two miracles required for beatification, approved in 1961. Elizabeth Ann Seton was beatified by Pope John XXIII on March 17, 1963.
